Reps to increase fuel price by N5 for roads maintenance.

If the House of Representatives signs the current National Roads Fund bill into law, Nigerians may pay additional N5 for petroleum products.

A technical committee set up by the House Committee on Works, chaired by Toby Okechukwu had made the recommendation.
The National Road Fund is aimed at generating revenue for routine and periodic maintenance works on Nigerian roads.
The committee recommended that “fuel levy of N5 chargeable per litre on any volume of petrol and diesel products imported into Nigeria and on locally refined petroleum products.”
It also recommended toll fees not exceeding 10 percent of any revenue paid as user charge per vehicle on any federal road designated as a toll road; international vehicle transit charges; inter-state mass transit user charge of 0.5 percent deductible from the fare paid by passengers as well as surcharge of 0.5 percent chargeable on the assessed value of any imported vehicle into the country.
The fund is to be managed by a governing board with a managing director as the head of the fund.

Is Senator Akpabio behind 2face's planned protest?

20:43 Add Comment

The Senate Minority Leader, Godswill Akpabio, has disassociated himself from the plan by foremost Nigerian singer, 2Baba, also known as 2Face, to stage a protest on February 5 against the federal government.

The internet has been flooded with reports that Mr. Akpabio, who is a former governor of Akwa Ibom state, was sponsoring the planned protest.
The senator, through a statement issued by his spokesman, Anietie Ekong, said it was laughable that people could try to link him with the planned protest because of the Prado SUV he donated in 2013 as a wedding gift to the singer and his wife, Annie Macaulay who is from Akwa Ibom.
“For the avoidance of doubt, we wish to state categorically that Senator Akpabio knows nothing about the planned protest neither is he the sponsor,” said the statement which added that Mr. Akpabio “has had no contact whatsoever with 2Face for many years”.
The statement continued: “According to the information being circulated the organizers of the planned protest have stated clearly that their protest is: ‘a call for nationwide protests as we say no to the Executive, no to legislatures, no to judiciary.’ Is it not idiotic and senseless for anyone to imagine that Senator Akpabio will sponsor a protest against the same arm of government that he is serving as a leader?
“As the Minority Leader, Senator Akpabio has consistently maintained that Nigerians should put aside their differences and support every effort that will pull the country out of the present recession.
“Much as he believes in the right of every Nigerian to express himself, he does not think that mass protest is the solution.
“The mischievous attempt to drag the name of Senator Akpabio into the planned protest should be discountenanced as the handiwork of political jobbers,” the statement said.

Super Eagles and Enyimba FC forward, Ezekiel Bassey, has joined the Team B of Spanish giants, Barcelona, on loan until the end of the season.

The Spanish giants announced on Tuesday that they had “reached an agreement” with seven-time Nigeria League champions for the services of the young forward to join their B-team for the rest of the season.

It is understood that the agreement between the Catalan outfit and Enyimba also includes a purchase option for two seasons according to Spanish news outlet Sport.es.
“FC Barcelona and Enyimba Football Club have reached an agreement for the transfer until the end of season of the player Ezekiel Joseph Bassey for Barça B.

“The agreement includes a purchase option for two more seasons. The 20-year-old Nigerian striker will undergo medical examination in the next few hours,” Barca announced on their website on Tuesday.

Bassey, who can play as a forward or as a wide man caught the fancy of his new employers when the Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL) All-Star team went for a week-long tour in Spain following the partnership between the League Management Company, LMC, and the Spanish La Liga.
The former Akwa United man will be keen to hit the ground running as he faces the challenge with the Barcelona B team.

OBAMA BACKS PROTESTS AGAINST TRUMP’S IMMIGRATION BAN

Former US President Barack Obama has backed protests by Americans over President Donald Trump’s immigration ban on 7 predominantly-Muslim countries.

In a statement by his spokesperson, Kevin Lewis on Monday, Obama said Trump’s immigration policy was discriminatory.
“The (former) President fundamentally disagrees with the notion of discriminating against individuals because of their faith or religion,” CNN quoted Lewis as saying.
Lewis said Obama was happy with Americans who have assembled to have their voices heard and exercise their constitutional rights.
“President Obama is heartened by the level of engagement taking place in communities around the country.
“Citizens exercising their constitutional right to assemble, organise and have their voices heard by their elected officials is exactly what we expect to see when American values are at stake,” Lewis said.
Trump had banned citizens and refugees of 7 Muslim countries from entering the US for 90 days.
The countries included Iran, Iraq, Syria, Sudan, Libya, Yemen and Somalia.

UPDATE: Customs Intercept Container Carrying 661 Pieces of Pump Action Rifles

07:38 Add Comment

The Federal Operations Unit (FOU) of the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) intercepted 661 pieces of pump action rifles from China, concealed with steel doors and other merchandise goods, which came in through Lagos port.

The Comptroller-General of Customs, Retired Col. Hameed Alli, made the disclosure while briefing newsmen on Monday in Lagos.
Alli said that the Federal Operations Unit, while on patrol, intercepted a Mark truck with registration number BUG 265 XG conveying a 40ft container with number; PONU/825914/3 along Mile 2 Apapa Road, Lagos.
The comptroller-general said the truck was immediately taken to F.O.U. premises for physical examination and 49 boxes containing 661 pieces of pump action rifles concealed with steel doors were revealed.
Alli said the rifles were under absolute prohibition, adding that its importation was illegal.
“Such deadly contravention of the law is even more unacceptable considering the fragile security situation in some parts of the country.
“Already three suspects have been arrested in connection with this illegal importation,’’ NAN quotes the comptroller-general as saying.
The suspects are: Mr Oscan Okafor (an importer), Mr Mahmud Haruna (a clearing agent), Mr Sadique Mustapha (accompanying the consignment to its destination).
Alli said initially the consignment was said to have originated from Turkey, adding that there was mixed-up in the document which finally revealed that the consignment originated from China.
“Investigation has already commenced and I have directed that the drag net should be wide enough to fish out all persons involved in the importation and clearing of the consignment, ‘’ NAN quotes Alli as saying.
He said Customs officers who were involved in the clearance of the containers were in the custody of Comptroller Mahmud Haruna of FOU Zone “A’’
Alli said that the seizure underscored the determination of the service to enforce all laws relating to importation and exportation of goods into and out the country thereby contributing to the economy, security and well-being of the country.
The comptroller-general said that the seizure was commendable and represented the new normal rule in the service “where most officers and men are on a daily basis ensuring that illegalities are not allowed unchecked’’.
He commended the Comptroller in charge of F.O.U. and officers and men who were involved in the seizure.
Alli, however, urged the media as well as meaningful Nigerians to help the service with information that would assist the service perform its statutory responsibilities in the interest of Nigeria.
He said the seizure would be handed over to the appropriate authority.

10 Signs Your Girlfriend is Cheating on You!

02:08 Add Comment

1. She pays more attention to her phone than you.

If you inevitably spend every dinner glaring at her as she pivots between various social networks and replies to every text message that springs up, don't be too quick to write her behavior off as a sign of the times.
Sure, we're all guilty of being so overly engrossed in our digital lives that we neglect the present moment. But if she makes a continual habit of talking to her Twitter followers more than you during dinner dates, it may point to her lack of investment in the relationship, not just her fleeting attention span. We don't want to say she might be spending your night together making plans with someone else, but stranger things have happened.

2. She's less interested in sex.

Every couple has sex routines. Maybe three times a week is your norm; maybe you get it in every night. But if your norm inexplicably changes, and you find you're battling a new excuse every night, you may want to investigate what lies at the root of the issue. Is she really too tired (every damn night)? Has your sex life just gotten that boring? Or, is she simply disinterested in humping you...because she's getting it elsewhere?
We're not saying you should draw wild conclusions from a single "not tonight," but be aware of what normal looks like so you know when your sex schedule diverges from it, and take the time to discuss what the real issue is.

3.Her social calendar is suddenly bursting at the seams.

Saturdays used to be your day. Nothing was said, no plans were made; it was just assumed that you'd be spending time together. But lately, it seems something more important to her comes up each week. Your weekly dates are no longer set in stone, and everything and everyone else takes precedent.
If you see your quality time slowly dwindling away, it absolutely points to her waning interest in the relationship, and it could mean she has transferred her affections elsewhere, or is at least entertaining the thought.
Independence is healthy, but a new-found focus on partying with her friends could mean she's putting herself out there again and is seriously considering pulling the plug on your love.

4. She accumulating new clothes at higher rates than usual.

If your girl goes into makeover mode and tears through the mall like Sonic the Hedgehog on a mission, you should take notice. Most women have an affinity for retail, but if her shopping takes on a rabid focus seemingly out of nowhere, you should ask yourself why she has become invested in reinventing herself.
Again, it's about a departure from the norm. If your girl normally puts on a full face of make-up to run errands, don't think twice about her putting on mascara to go to the dry-cleaners. But if she's a sweats-and-Chapstick type of chick, and she suddenly starts taking an hour to get ready to go out (particularly, without you), you have a reason to worry.

5. She's overly concerned with your whereabouts.

Remember when you first met and every day was peppered with a constant exchange of flirty, borderline-salacious text messages? It's normal for your text game to fall off from that initial honeymoon phase, but if she takes hours to respond without explanation, and can't muster up an ounce of enthusiasm when she does, it's not a good look for your relationship.
There's a real possibility she's under stress at work, or just in an emotional rut. But if you're able to rule that out (which you can do with a few simple questions) and you notice she rarely takes the initiative to text—and if she does, it's to ask where you are—she might be tracking your whereabouts for less than innocent reasons. We hate to be the ones to say it, but she's not suddenly interested in the minutiae of your day—she's covering her ass.

6. She isn’t making plans for the future.

If you look in your iPhone's calendar, are the upcoming months looking unusually devoid of commitments? None of her 200 cousins has a wedding planned, you've yet to confirm any plans for your accrued vacation days, and hell, you haven't even heard about one of those double dates with her best friend she usually forces you to pencil in each month.
It's possible she's overwhelmed at work or otherwise preoccupied; it's also possible she's plotting an escape and is hesitant to extend any invitations knowing she'll eventually have to rescind them. Or, even worse, she's too invested in someone new to realize she's been neglecting your shared social schedule.

7. She flirts with other people in front of you.

This points to larger issues of being attention-starved, having an insatiable ego, and otherwise being insecure. But more notably, if she's comfortable batting her eyes at other people in front of you, what is she doing when you're not there?

8. She starts pointing fingers in your direction.

If your previously secure girlfriend suddenly goes into paranoia mode, you should take notice. If she snaps at you over seemingly innocent actions (basically, anything on this list, but in small, completely commonplace increments), she might be trying to throw you off her scent. By focusing your attention to your perceived failings, you'll be less apt to interrogate her about her actual foul play, which is just the way she'd like it.

9. She makes a point to say she’s unhappy.

It's easy to misinterpret any of the aforementioned signals as infidelity when in actuality, there is a perfectly reasonable explanation. But, if you start noticing that the signs are slowly piling up, and she's recently admitted she's no longer happy in the relationship, you might be on the verge of a full-fledged confession.

Guilt is a tricky emotion, and she might feel that by fessing up to her flailing satisfaction in the relationship, she is offering you (and herself) an explanation for her selfish actions. Or, she could be gearing up to act on a long-held impulse, and making her excuses in advances so she can later utter, "I told you so," with aplomb.

10. She falls off the radar for large gaps of time.

So, she disappeared for five hours for the third time in a week and blamed it on falling asleep, and you actually believed her? That's cute. We guess what they say is true—love is actually blind.
We hate to be the ones to pry those stubborn eyelids open, but if your girl goes M.I.A. for days at a time, you need to stop making excuses and start getting answers.

5 Keys to Entrepreneurial Success in 2017

01:50 Add Comment

If you are ready to experience entrepreneurial success in 2017, be prepared to work. There aren’t any eBooks or monthly programs that are going to magically eliminate or reduce the workload that is required to be successful.
The other day I overheard a business owner say, “Hopefully, luck will be on my side next year and business will take a turn for the better.” Sadly, that way of thinking isn’t going to help him one bit -- if I were to make a bet, I would let it ride on him failing again.

If you are banking on luck, you might as well hit the casino and let it all ride on red or black at the roulette wheel. Here are five very simple, yet seemingly overlooked key points you need to address if you want to experience a successful 2017.

1. Put past failures behind you.

There are far more failures than there are success stories when it comes to startups and new businesses. Most fail, and that’s just how it is. It’s very rare that you will find a successful entrepreneur that hit a home run at his or her first at bat.
In order to eventually get your win, you need to learn from your past mistakes, but also put them behind you. Don’t dwell on them or waste time looking back. focus all your energy and momentum on what’s in front of you. I had several failures before I found success with my marketing agency.

2. Show up daily ready to hustle.

The minute you start to slack or switch into cruise control mode, you immediately lose valuable momentum. Go into each day knowing you must hustle hard and take full advantage of every available minute.
My company just did a soft launch of the first of a half-dozen consumer brands we are bringing to market in 2017 and we also have a new influencer marketing agency, blerrp, launching in the new year. My plate is beyond full -- it’s overflowing, and if I don’t show up every day ready to give 100 percent it’s going to be a disaster. Commit and then hold yourself accountable -- your success depends on it.

3. Work on your business daily.

Work “on” your business, not “in” your business.
Once you understand there is a huge difference, you will experience the type of growth that is needed to succeed. Learning to delegate responsibilities was one of the reasons my marketing agency succeeded, while past ventures failed. I used to think that I could do it all -- trust was a big factor. I would rather work 18-hour days and try to do it all rather than delegate to someone capable of handling the tasks.
Hire freelancers and virtual assistants to handle simple, yet time-sucking tasks. This allows you to focus on more important tasks, like strategy and growth. Use these tips to make your freelancer hiring process as smooth as possible.

4. Learn and improve daily.

Strive to become a better entrepreneur every single day. There are several ways to learn -- industry conferences, mentors, coaches, etc. -- but there is something you can do every morning that will have a huge impact on your success -- reading.
Reading allows us to absorb information from some of the smartest people in the world who share their expertise and logic, helping us to become better entrepreneurs. While it can be difficult at first, try to dedicate a part of your morning ritual to reading, even if it’s just 15 minutes. Over time you will discover that this can be one of the most beneficial parts of your day.

5. Refuse to quit.

Giving up is for cowards -- it’s the easy way out.
It’s going to be difficult. There are going to be times that it seems impossible. When faced with obstacles, take a step back and be grateful that you have this opportunity. There is no better time to start a business than right now. You can start with very little to no capital and you don’t even need a physical office location.
Promise yourself that you will not quit, no matter how difficult the journey becomes and the odds that you succeed improve drastically.

Tiwa Savage getting back with Tee Billz?See Photos

A reunion is definitely going on between Tiwa Savage and Tee Billz.

The duo who have been spotted together since late last year are reportedly currently working on rekindling their love.

It was gathered that reconciliation talks are going on between the couple who were spotted at their son's school over the weekend.
The three were celebrating with their Chinese friends on Friday, January 27, 2017, the Chinese Year of the Cockerel.

Sources close to the couple say the pop queen, Tiwa Savage is back with her husband and former manager Tunji 'Tee Billz' Balogun.
But hey! Who knows, they could just be co-parenting for the good of their child, Jamil Balogun.
It was learnt that Tee Billz is currently undergoing mental health therapy and rehabilitation.
Recall the estranged couple were spotted for the first time together on Friday, December 30, 216 since their marital drama back in April.
The duo were seen together at TV presenter, Stephanie Coker's traditional wedding over the holidays making it their first public sighting since April 2016.

Their re-union story quietly started when Tiwa Savage posted a photo of her son Jamil Balogun in July when he turned one. "You are my reason for everything ... Dada and Mama love you so much #JamJamIsOne" wrote Tiwa Savage in the caption of the photo.
Apparently the word 'dada' indicated to some that Tiwa Savage and Tee Billz have patched things up... And they have indeed.
Even comedian Ali Baba is of the opinion that Tee Billz and Tiwa Savage would reconcile soon.

Unbelievable! Kenyan couple spend N500 on wedding ceremony

01:12 Add Comment

Never in Nigeria! A Kenyan couple heeded the words of our forefathers by cutting their coat according to their clothe.

Wilson, 27, and Ann Mutura, 24, have become viral sensations for their modesty, case in point, their $1 wedding which they attended in what we would refer to as 'house clothes'.
Instead of worrying over an expensive wedding, the pair found a way around their money problem and settled for far less than expected.
BBC reports that Wilson and Ann initially postponed their wedding twice in 2016 over their inability to raise the $300 (£240) fee.
Finally deciding to get married with the lowest budget available, Wilson spent only $1 on two budget wedding rings which still caused a cheer among the witnesses as the pair exchanged their vows.
Thankfully, other expenses such as the license fee, were settled by their church.
The couple has been hailed online for their brave move, with social media users noting just how expensive weddings have become in recent times.
After dating for three years, Wilson and Ann appealed to friends to help them raise some cash for their wedding, all to no avail.
Speaking with BBC, Wilson says that his older brother had advised him to live with Ann without the hassles of a wedding.
However, the fruit seller and his fiancee wanted much more and would not settle for anything less than "a permanent and blessed union".
"As a [Christian] couple, we wanted to marry and live with dignity in order to avoid other temptations," said Ann.
In the same vein, the pair settled for a very, very...... very low-key wedding ceremony which took place in Nairobi, without a wedding cake, flowers or decorations.
Dressed in jeans, T-shirts and trainers, their only assets, two shiny steel circles that served as wedding rings, Wilson and Ann had their dream come true.
Pastor Jasper Ojwach from the Community Christian worship center in Nairobi told the BBC that Wilson left the congregation shocked when he ran out of the church to buy the wedding rings.
Wilson received hearty cheers when he pulled out the rings from his pocket after the exchange of vows.
The couple has also expressed their surprise over the positive reaction their rather frugal wedding has garnered online.
"I believe money should not stop young people like us from getting married. If people love each other and want to marry they should," Ann said.
The Mutura's were celebrated so much so that they have received gifts from companies and individuals who were moved by their story.
The pair is reportedly leaving on their honeymoon very soon after a travel agency gifted them with a five-day break.

10 ways to destroy your smartphone

01:01 Add Comment

We depend upon our smartphones. They keep us connected, informed and up to date during the hectic daily grind. For many of us, those smartphones have become more than a simple tool, so we should probably take better care of them than we do. Instead of treating them as if they are toys that can be replaced on a whim, we should treat smartphones as if they contain sensitive data and our jobs depend upon them.

What steps can you take to make sure you don’t damage or destroy your mobile device? We have a list of ‘nasty’ things that can be hazardous to the health your smartphone or tablet. Give this a read and see whether you are guilty of any of these abusive behaviours.
1.Exposing it to the elements
According to TechRepublic, both heat and cold can bring that smart device to the land of devastation. Leaving your phone in a car in the heat or overnight in the cold is a sure-fire way of saying goodbye and having to return to your carrier for a replacement. Studies have shown that Android devices fare better in the cold than do iOS devices, but at about 40 degrees Fahrenheit, both platforms will cease to work.
Heat is worse. At 113 degrees Fahrenheit, the devices will be adversely affected. The best way to avoid the effects of heat is to turn off the device. The moral of this story: Don’t leave your phone in your car (and if you find yourself in the desert, turn that device off).According to TechRepublic, both heat and cold can bring that smart device to the land of devastation. 2.Rooting improperly
There is a certain cross-section of users who want to take as much control over their devices as possible, according to TechRepublic. To do this, they root their smartphones. There are many reasons to root a device, as well as one reason not to. There is always a slim chance that an improper rooting can brick a phone. This is why, on every set of rooting instructions you find, you will see warnings that should have average users turning away from the act. Actually, in many cases, there are tools that make rooting quite simple. But even with that simplicity, you can find yourself with a device refusing to function. Root carefully.
3. Ignoring malware
Malware is not just for desktops. In fact, the threat of malware can do even worse damage on a smartphone. Why? Because smartphone malware can track your location (no matter where you are), snatch highly sensitive data, among other things. It is crucial that you apply caution when installing apps on your smartphone. I always recommend that users install an app like Malwarebytes to keep their phones as malware free as possible. Do not ignore the threat of malware. Install enough malware-filled apps and your phone will become useless until it is removed.
4. Cramming it full
Smartphones have precious little storage space. Unless you use an Android phone and use SD cards intelligently, you can quickly fill up those devices until they won’t work. A smartphone user was completely unaware she was working without an SD card until the device started malfunctioning. Someone discovered she had no space remaining, added an SD card, and transferred all her photos from main storage. All was well. Without enough storage space, the device simply won’t function. Monitor the space on your device and if possible, use SD cards.
5.Leaving it on… always
Our smartphones work, and work, and work, and work. In fact, in many cases, these devices work better than our desktops and laptops. The thing is, even these remarkably stable mobile platforms need to be given a rest. At least once a week, reboot that device or (even better) shut it down for 30 minutes or so. Doing this will ensure that caches are cleared and subsystems are properly restarted. Shutting down the device once a week will aid with the longevity of the RAM on the device and allow certain diagnostics to be run at boot.
6. Botching the SIM card lock
There is one good reason to place a lock on your SIM card so others can’t use it. However, botch the SIM card lock and that SIM card is toast. We understand this is not the device itself, but until you can get the SIM card replaced, your phone will not function. If you feel the need to place a lock on the SIM card, do so very carefully.
7. Plugging it in carelessly
Those micro USB connections are not as bad as USB connections (there is always a 50/50 chance you will get it right on the first try), but they still can be a bit tricky to connect. When frustration sets in, it is tempting to force the issue. Fight that urge at all costs. One swift push and the micro USB port is ruined. You break that and the phone is gone (at least when the battery finally runs down). Experts say that there are a few people that have done this and wound up having to shell out for a new device. Always use care when connecting the device.
8.Pocket dwelling
For some odd reason, the younger generations have a penchant for shoving their devices into the back pockets of their skinny jeans. The first, obvious, risk is breakage. If those jeans don’t have enough spandex in the fabric, and you sit the wrong way, that device can snap in half (with enough pressure). The other risk is due to the infinitesimal size of the pockets, barely large enough to hide half of the phone. If you stand up too quickly, the phone will be jettisoned and crash down on the floor. Don’t let death by skinny jeans be the end of your smartphone.
9.Flashing the wrong ROM
There are many ROMs out there for Android devices; ROMs that bring all kinds of amazing functionality or even just a bare minimum of functionality. But if you flash the wrong ROM onto your device, it will be toast. Flashing an incorrect ROM can even render the cell radio dead. Be absolutely sure that you are flashing a ROM that was designed for your specific device. You have been warned.
10. Getting it wet
We left the obvious for last. You may be surprised that even the slightest bit of water can do irreparable damage to a smartphone. This means if you use your device for outdoor activities (such as running or cycling), be sure to put the device in a waterproof case or baggie. Just make sure it doesn’t get too hot or you will run the risk of heat damage. If your device gets exposed to water, the first thing you should do is shut it down and pull out the battery (if applicable). And you can always use the “rice trick”; submerge the device in dry rice so all the moisture is removed. Some experts have done this, and it worked (if the moisture hasn’t already destroyed the device).

Kashamu: I’ll hire 40 OPC guards… People will die before I’m extradited

00:46 Add Comment

Buruji Kashamu, lawmaker representing Ogun east senatorial district, says two or three people will die before he can be extradited to the US.

According to PUNCH, the legislator, who is being charged for drug related offences, has revealed his plan of hiring 40 members of the Oodua Peoples Congress (OPC) to protect him.
Maintaining his innocence, Kashamu said Adewale, his late younger brother was the culprit, not him.
“I will go and hire OPC, may be like 40. I will load them in my vehicle, because the day we meet, one has to kill one,” he reportedly said in a statement.
“That is for sure! One has to kill one because I am not ready to go anywhere. Before that happens, maybe about three, four or five people will die.
“The Beninoise Interpol produced evidence showing that the Benin telephone number, through which the US offenders communicated with their west African collaborators, belonged to my brother, Adewale Kashamu, and not me.
“When they were looking for him, the NDLEA people went to his house here; they searched his house. they went to his car company, they sealed his car company and they took over 30 vehicles from there. He ran away.”
He blamed his predicament on former President Olusegun Obasanjo, appealing to President Muhammadu Buhari’s government to protect him.
“I do not believe that this government can entertain this kind of rubbish. I do believe that this government has integrity and they are credible; they believe in the rule of law, because if they want to do it, they could have done it,” he said.
“Obasanjo has been pushing them, using one Sandra, a former ambassador of the United States; he’s the one pushing everybody, meeting all these judges, but what have I done?
“There is no extradition that can be brought against me again. The only thing they can do is to watch and catch me on the road; take me to the airport or Cotonou or throw me inside a vessel and take me through the Atlantic Ocean. But I am not going to let that happen.”

Last week, a US court ruled that Kashamu's drug trial must continue.
