5 Lessons Upcoming Artistes Need To Learn From Wizkid - Latest9ja

01:15 Add Comment

Wizkid, the biggest African artiste has gone through a lot, the hustles and struggles. Here we draw out 5 lessons upcoming aristes can learn from him.

The race to make it big in the entertainment is indeed an uphill task. Everyone wants to be a one-hit wonder and blow immediately just like Humblesmith. Several challenges abound for upcoming artistes especially for those without a record label. Dropping singles every month, collaborating with other artistes on joint tracks, performing for a meagre pay at shows/concerts, appealing to streets and radio DJs to play your song, settling the bloggers who will publicize your brand, it's really a long way to stardom. Wizkid was in those shoes too even though he started early as Lil Prinz at the age of 11, he was in the category of 'legendary hustlers' as he was a studio rat together with Siri(remember him in Ojuelegba?) in the famous MoDogg studio. However, Wizkid's ascension from an upcoming artiste to arguably Africa's best exploit to the world is extraordinary yet surprising. Wizkid has broken and set new records in the industry. He's the perfect example to follow. Virtually everyone wants to be like the Starboy. However, before you begin your journey, these are lessons to learn from the Baba Nla;

1. Work hard: Wizkid's first album is a must have for every upcoming artiste. No wonder it ranks high among the best albums in Nigeria. The album is detailed with the struggles Wizkid faced while he was an upcoming artiste, how people scorned him then but wanted to associate when he had made it. Especially in Oluwa Loni and Wad Up, he revealed how he used to wear one shirt, one jean, hustling on the streets, hoping to meet a benefactor one day. He did free shows, went to studios before OJB took interest in him and he eventually laid the chorus on M.I's track, "fast money, fast cars". As an upcoming artiste, never rest on your oars, greatness is not achieved in a day.

2. Networking: Relationships with people don't happen immediately. you have to meet with people who are friends with them just to be close with them. Wizkid would definitely have networked his way to meeting OJB Jezreel. OJB was one of the major producers back then due to his relationship with 2face and the whole of Kennis Music. Even now, Wizkid is still networking. Skepta referred Wizkid to Drake, his relationship with TY Dollarsign granted him a  feature with Future and they're already on tour. Upcoming artistes, learn to network with influential people in the entertainment industry. Theindustry is a wide place, there are a lot of people to network with. Make friends with the big players in the industry.
Wizkid and Future

3. Leave your Comfort Zone: The man would leave his family and cling unto his wife and they shall become one. Who remembers this saying? Well, one of the reasons why Wizkid is at the top of the game right now is because he decided it was time to establish his own franchise. It was time to leave the local terrain. Wizkid might have never had that kind of international exposure if he was still under EME. Could have remained local like Davido. His decision to stand alone gave him the opportunity to surf the globe, trying to gain some international connect. That's why Kiss Daniel and Reekado are finding it hard under their labels because they can't make their decisions alone, kind of like been controlled.
Wizkid and Banky W during his upcoming years

4. Evolve Constantly: Wizkid never started out as an afro-beat artiste, he was actually doing some lovey-dovey songs and RnB. This was evident in his superstar album. Only few had a little afro-beat sounds. But after a period of self-discovery, he tapped into the world of afro-beat with Jaiye Jaiye and since assumed the post of the "New King Of Afro-Beat" . He replaced Sam Klef as his official producer. Upcoming artistes should never fail to explore, don't just streamline your music to only one genre, evolve, tweak your sound and let your fans feel your versatility.

Producer, Sam klef and Wizkid

5. Develop A Wonderful Relationship With The Fans: One thing that stood Wizkid out when he was an upcoming artiste was that he had a wonderful relationship with the fans. That has been helping him in his career. Maybe that's why he's the most followed Nigerian on Twitter. He interacts well with them, preaches goodwill messages, makes them laughs(who remembers when he cooked watery indomie and posted it on snapchat?), drops hints of songs to be released and he's also generous.
So, upcoming artistes, it's left to you. To make it in the entertainment industry is an uphill task. You have to be unique and extraordinary. You have to please the fans as they're your customers, they're the ones who will buy your songs and promote it as well. Your music has to appeal to them. You need God as well as a good record label and management. Or else you can blow and eventually unblow like Ice Prince.
Apart from these reasons, what else do you think we can learn from Wizkid? Have your say in the comments box.

ASUU Strike: 5 Reasons Why ASUU Might Not Cancel The Strike - Latest9ja

19:34 Add Comment

ASUU might definitely not cancel the strike due to some reasons. Here, Latest9ja outlines some of those reasons.

ASUU chairman, Biodun Ogunyemi
From left: Former President of the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU), Prof. Nasir Isa; President of ASUU, Biodun Ogunyemi; and the Vice President, Prof. Emmanuel Osodeke, at a news conference

Week in, week out, Nigerian students want to hear this good news: Hurray! ASUU has called off the strike. Especially the final year students. We hear of an ASUU meeting every Friday night but nothing positive comes out of it, the strike still continues. Buhari came back, they have not canceled it, Osinbajo will lead FG's delegation, still yet nothing. However, it seems these lecturers just wants us to have a fun time with this strike
I know you all would be mad at me for this article. But can't you see that there are just some reasons that are hidden from the public. Everyone has a skeleton, difference is where you keep your skeleton. See, the last indefinite strike was 6months. So, this one promises to be bigger, better and more longer, trust me. However, there might be reasons why ASUU hasn't called off the strike yet apart from the 2013 memorandum reasons they gave. These might be the reasons;

1.ASUU wants you to hustle and make money:
If you are like me who hates collecting pocket money and wants to be self-reliant, Voila! This ASUU strike is for us. Time to take advantage. That's how I saw one big girl in church collecting "Owo offering"(offering money) in church yesterday. Damn! And you call yourself "slay mama??"
See, this strike is a blessing in disguise for real-time hustlers. Hustlers don't sleep when others are sleeping. They work throughout the night, they take a nap in the morning and wake up later to continue their hustle. Before you start thinking about "yahoo", there are a lot of jobs you can do. ASUU wants the students to feel the pain of the working class, whether it's a factory job, sales girl, nanny. Just go and do one. You can also work at the restaurant where you can help them in washing plates. At least you'll earn money.

2. ASUU wants you to watch the 2018 World Cup at home
So, I made the calculation, If ASUU cancels the strike by December/January. We would resume in January and finish the session by May. Wow, good news coupled with the 3 Months break. The World Cup runs from June to July. And since we all love to watch the World Cup with the whole fam, ASUU has made it easier for us. It won't be nice having exams on the day Nigeria would be playing one big country, let's say Brazil . Some people will abandon their exams to watch that match. Trust me.

Maracana stadium in Brazil

3. ASUU wants students to learn a new skill
A lot of students after every 2nd semester spend at least 3 months for the holiday. They do nothing. They stay at home. Watch TV series, attend Owambe parties. ASUU knows. ASUU also acknowledges that majority of the current crop of graduates are unemployed. Still, students don't want to be self-reliant. Every quarter the NBS(Nigerian Bureau of Statistics) release a report of the economy, the inflation rate and the unemployment rate. The unemployment rate keeps increasing majorly due to company downsizing their workforce or SMEs folding up. The Management students know this. But, most of them will still post "slay" photos on IG, go to clubs/elegushi Beach on Friday, Owambe parties on Saturday. Peeps, this is the time to be productive. I, especially have undertaken two online digital marketing courses with certificates awarded. If you can't learn a skill(maybe due to cost of training), go online, there are free courses to learn, don't waste time!
Laptop, Phone, Notepad and Coffee

4.ASUU wants you to learn from your parents.
This is for boys who don't know how to cook and particularly the girls who oversalt the food they give us as cooler ministry. Use your data to watch some tutorial videos. Learn how to cook sumptuous meals not just the regular.  Rack up knowledge during this Strike, learn how to fix devices and appliances especially when they get spoilt. And also for most of you who don't like to run errands for your parents, this is pay back time. ASUU is trying to humble most of you and since you know God resist the proud and give grace to the humble you better succumb.
Father and Son playing

Lastly, ASUU wants you to Gain More Experience Through Internship
Students at home, it's not until you're in 300L/400L or your course only qualifies you for FPY? Well, this ASUU strike is a window of opportunity for you to gain more experience by applying for internship at any firm. Just tell them "I'm Johnny Bravo, a student of....seeking for internship at..."
I mailed one of the prominent media firms in Nigeria for internship and the reply I got was there was no space but they could create space for me if I could bring something different on the table. Been a smart lad, I went to their website/social media platforms to identify the loopholes they had, and with my content creation skills, I was asked to start work with immediate effect. Students at least if it is at Iya Risikat Boutique where you would be a sales girl, please go and do it. It would add to your CV.

Man in suit and tie

Princess Kate and Prince Charles are expecting their third child, Kensington Palace has announced.

As the world reeled from news from North Korea with its bomb threat, news emerged from the Kensington Palace that Princess Kate Middleton, wife of the Duke of Cambridge, Prince Charles is pregnant with a third child. The queen and both families are reportedly happy with the news.

However, Princess Kate is down with hyperemesis gravidarum, or severe morning sickness which also affected her during her previous two pregnancies. The princess who is also the Duchess of Cambridge has cancelled her planned engagement at the Hornsey Road Children’s Centre in London today.
The royal couple who have already produced two children — and possible heirs to the throne — the one son, George, and one daughter, Charlotte, aged four and two.
The expectant child if it is a girl, will become the fifth in line to the throne behind Prince Charles, Prince William, Prince George, and Princess Charlotte.

This is due to a change in the royal law - which stops royal sons taking precedence over their female siblings in the line of succession - came into force in March 2015.
The child will be the Queen's sixth great-grandchild.

Unfortunately, to become King or Queen as the third-born royal child is rare - and has yet to happen within the current House of Windsor.
However, the third child of George III and Queen Charlotte, William IV, took on the task and ruled from 1830 to 1837.
The Hanoverian king acceded to the throne aged 64 when his older brother, George IV, died without an heir.
He became next in line when he was 62 and his other older brother, Frederick, Duke of York, died.

Prime Minister, Theresa May has congratulated the couple, calling it a "fantastic news."

Sarz; The Legendary Hit Maker

Nigerian Producer, Sarz In Nike

Sarz, fondly caled O1S, an acronym that stands for Only 1 Sarz is a Nigerian Producer and beat maker whose talent stands out from the vast majority of producers that exist nationwide. Known with several artistes, he has produced for Olamide, Reminisce, Patoranking, Banky W, JahBless and lately Wizkid. His relationship with Wizkid dates back to 2012 when EME released their first studio album and Sarz produced an hit single off the album titled "Dance For Me" which featured the Starboy.  Few months later, Wizkid paid a visit to Sarz's studio where he recorded "Beat of Life" which topped charts and gained rave reviews from fans who fell in love with the afro-beat track. Later on, Sarz produced arguably the best song of 2013, Jaiye Jaiye which featured Femi Kuti. An afro-beat song, Wizkid did enough justice to the song with fans scoring it a high. In 2015, after the success of his sophomore album, Ayo, Wizkid released a single titled Sound It which was produced by Sarz. Typical like all other Wizkid songs, Sound It was also majorly afro-beat. It is safe to say that Sarz seems to be the only producer on the continent who understands what Wizkid truly wants in the afro-beat genre.

In 2016, Wizkid started to record his third studio album, Sounds From The Other Side. With the help of Efya and Dj Maphorisa, they all began to work for this major project, Wizkid, Sarz and DJ Maphorisa were all accorded production credits on the best song in 2016, One Dance. It was rumoured back in Nigeria when an affiliate of Wizkid, Seyi Shay said in an interview that Wizkid sold One Dance to Drake. She further alleged that Wizkid recorded One Dance with the help of other producers which included Sarz. Apart from One Dance, Sarz also produced the smash hit, Come Closer which featured Canadian Rapper, Drake. Sarz's exploits cannot go unnoticed as he is responsible for Wizkid's switch from the regular afro-beat to the modern day Caribbean Sound. Wizkid's First Song in 2017, sweet love was also produced by the legendary producer. The track to which had been billed for release since 2016 was eventually released as Wizkid's first song off his record deal with RCA records. It is safe to say that of all songs Wizkid has released in 2016-2017, Sarz is responsible for 65% of the total output!

5 Interesting Reasons Why Suya Is Prepared In The Evening

08:06 Add Comment
Suya is a Northern Nigerian delight that has become a delicacy that is consumed all over the country. It knows no ethnicity, no religion and no tribe. This said, one thing you may have observed is that this street food is usually prepared in the evening. Why not in the morning or afternoon? Well, whoever, decided to kick off the preparation of Suya in the evening must be a genius because the marketing strategy is working. You find Nigerians buying Suya at this time. Accordingly, Latest9ja  shares 5 reasons why Suya is prepared in the evening.

A suya seller preparing the meat

It more attractive in the evening

When you returning from in the evening and you see the mallam or Aboki the fire of the suya blazing in the very busy or hectic evening. There is no way you will not be attracted or tempted to buy. Even when you didn’t plan to buy, you will.

It is when Nigerians hang out and relax

It is in the evening that most Nigerians hang out and relax. That is when they are close from work. Some don’t go home straight away. They hang out at your favourite hotel bar in Lagos with friends, and if there is a Suya spot around, they buy. If you setup in the afternoon, very few people will patronise you. You will be forced to move your suya business to the evening.

It is very tasty at that time

suya is very tasty normally. But there is no way you can compare afternoon suya with evening suya, they are not mates. The warm evening weather, the stress of work and traffic all combine to make you savour the taste of suya. It is very yummier!!!

The Aboki has other businesses he runs during the day

The Aboki or mallam preparing the suya has other businesses he runs during the day. He doesn’t survive on making suya alone. Some of the things he may likely be doing during the day include shoemaking, tailoring and barbing among others.

It is just weird or unusual to see morning or afternoon Suya

It is just weird and unusual for you to see suya being prepared in the morning or afternoon. You are already used to it in the evenings. Don’t be surprised if some Nigerians think that you are doing something fishy by preparing suya during the day. They will not even close near such a suya.

5 ways to maximize your time at NYSC camp

08:03 Add Comment

The National Youth Service Corps (NYSC), an organization set up by the Nigerian government since 1973 to ensure Nigerian students give a mandatory one-year service upon graduation, recently issued out call-up letters to certain individuals who have qualified to join the last batch for the year. However, while these individuals are much elated to get the opportunity, seeing as completing the service year entitles one to employment, a number of them are perturbed as to how to cope with the three weeks “orientation” period spent in a military-controlled boot “camp” away from family and friends. Jumia Travel, therefore, suggests 7 ways prospective youth corpers can maximize their time at the NYSC camp.

A group of coppers

Join the OBS

The Orientation Broadcasting Service (OBS) is a great way to serve while in the camp. A very important unit of the camp, it will offer you opportunities to not only develop your editorial and media skills, you will get to know the key officers in the camp. It also gives you a measure of authority and allows you to get an exemption from some of the camp activities which you may be averse to.

Run a small business

You can actually make money while at the orientation camp. You can offer services such as hair dressing or laundry to others in the camp who need them for a fee or you can rent a stall at the Mami market and sell food items which most corpers need from day to day. It is a great way to hone your business skills before you are launched into the labour market.

Do an online course

The orientation period does not have to be all activities and socializing, you can further develop yourself on the side by registering and going through a short online course during your stay. The good thing about online learning is that it is flexible so you can actually plan it around the time that you will be leaving the camp.

Socialize and actually meet new people

The NYSC scheme was originally established to encourage oneness among citizens in the country and promote national unity. By sending these individuals to other states, the expectation is that they mix with people of other tribes, social and family backgrounds and learn the culture of the indigenes in the place they are posted. Rather than sticking to yourself all through the orientation process, use your spare time to actually fraternize and get to know the people in your platoon and camp as a whole. You would be surprised how many new things you will learn about Nigeria and what connections you may make for the future.

Start applying for jobs

The orientation period is not too early a time to start sending out your CVs to potential employers. The NYSC orientation can actually serve as an avenue for corpers to share job information and career resources, so take advantage of that and start early.

5 Ways To Increase Your Social Media Followership

07:51 Add Comment

Increasing your social media followers is one of the best ways to be recognized on social media and maintain a strong social media presence. This can be very beneficial, especially to businesses that want to save some of their advertising budget, and use this means to create awareness for their products and services.

Latest9ja shares 5 ways that can help you increase your social media followers.

Social Media apps

FREQUENTLY POST GOOD CONTENT THAT RELATES TO YOUR TARGET AUDIENCE

This goes without saying. Good content pulls in followers like a magnet. Develop and frequently post good, useful, interesting and engaging content which relates to your target audience and that your target audience can relate with. Good, useful and interesting content will trend or go viral more often than not, draw interest on social media and help to increase your fans and followers.

BE INTERACTIVE

It’s not enough to just post good engaging content, you also have to interact with your followers and people that might just be ‘passing by’. Relate with them. Answer their questions. Make them feel important and heard. A good example of a Twitter handle that has recently had some success with this is the EFCC twitter handle. The person(s) managing the organization’s handle not only became more interactive with followers, but also added a hint of humor (an ‘entertainment value’) to these interactions. The result was increased recognition and a better social media presence.

Your approach does not have to emulate that of EFCC, especially if you consider your business or brand more conservative, but the idea of being interactive on your social media account is dynamic enough to be applied in any way that suits your business brand.

FIND AND FOLLOW OTHERS (AND OFTEN FOLLOW BACK WHEN FOLLOWED)

You don’t have to wait for followers to come to you, go out and find some to follow. But, even this approach needs tact to be effective, if not you will end up following tons of people who won’t follow back. Therefore, a suggestion you can use is to follow and give those you follow time to follow you back. Some will and for those that don’t, you can un-follow and continue your search for more followers. Don’t forget to send a message of appreciation to those who follow you back and use that means to, in a nutshell, introduce them to your social media platform.

Same goes for you too. If you expect others to follow you back, a number of those who follow you expect you to follow back or will like for you to follow back. This doesn’t mean you have to follow every single person that follows you, but you can instead look through the profiles of those who follow you, see those you are interested in and follow. This way, you appear more often on the suggestions section of the social media pages and increase your visibility. Not to mention the fact that you can also get inspiration for content from the diversity of your social media followers, and also share some of their posts to help with content.

OFFER DEALS, GIVEAWAYS OR PROMOS

There are very few people who will not jump at the offer of a nice and exclusive deal, or who will not like to participate for a chance to win a promo or giveaway. Doing this from time to time will get your target audience’s attention and, as a result, can help you get more followers.

DON’T FORGET INFLUENCERS

Reach out to influencers on social media, that is people with a large social media following. Mention them in some of your posts that are related to them, attempt to build a relationship with them. This increases your chances of having your posts shared by these influencers to their followers, and also increases your chances of getting a few recommendations about your business or brand from them to their followers in some of their individual posts from time to time.

Beauty Mistakes That Make You Look Older Than Your Age

07:37 Add Comment
Women always want to look ravishing and beautiful. Hence, some women dress down to appear super attractive. While some of them are able to pull this off, others don’t. This because in a bid to look good, they make some beauty mistakes that may make them appear older than their age.

Of course, you know that beauty is very subjective and we all have our perception of what is beautiful. This said, there are some generally acceptable beauty mistakes women should avoid if they don’t want to look older. Latest9ja shares some of the mistakes that make you look older. So, always look out for this whenever you are dressing for that occasion or date at one of the best hotels in Lagos.

You overdo your makeup

Makeup can do two things it can make you look younger and can also make you look older. It largely depends on how you apply it. However, some women overuse makeup that it makes them look older. You can apply simple makeup and still look sophisticated.

You ignore your brows

Your eyebrow is one of the first things that is noticed on your face. This can impact your other facial features if ignored. You don’t necessarily have to shave or shape it. You can use a pomade or eyeliner to make it look good.

You don’t often exfoliate

Exfoliation involves the removal of the oldest dead skin cells on the skin’s outermost surface according to Wikipedia. Exfoliation will no doubt make your skin gorgeous. If you don’t regularly exfoliate, your skin will appear rough and haggard that even the number of creams you use will not help you.

Poor hair styling

A woman’s hair is the beauty of a woman. The way you style it will go a long way in determining whether you will appear young or old. So, know your hair and know the style that fits you and makes you look younger.

Too much foundation

You may want to cover the spots on your face with foundation. It is absolutely nothing wrong with foundation. The problem is the result of the foundation application. You should lightly wipe your face when using foundation instead of going heavy on it.

8 Effective Ways to Avoid Breast Sagging

07:28 Add Comment
Eventually, at some point in a woman’s life, no matter how hard she tries to avoid it, her breasts will sag. However, there are a number of things a woman can do to avoid early breast sagging and maintain her youthful appearance for as long as possible. Latest9ja shares 8 ways to avoid breast sagging.

A graphic illustration of the Breasts

Wear a Supportive Bra that’s Your Size

Getting a supportive fitted bra that is your size will help to give your breasts the support they need. It will also help your breast to resist gravity and reduce bouncing when you walk. This will help reduce strains on the skin and ligaments of your breasts and prevent them from stretching out.

Exercise

The best way to keep your body young and fit is by engaging in regular physical activity. One of such activities is exercise. As a woman, exercise helps to emphasize the perkiness of your breast. Be sure to wear a well-fitted sport bra during exercise to hold your breast in place, reduce bouncing and prevent the stretching of the skin and ligaments of your breast.

Avoid Smoking

The chemicals in cigarettes harm the collagen and elastin in your skin making it weaker and less stretchy, which causes wrinkling of the skin and sagging of the breast. Once the skin of your breasts loses elasticity, your breasts will sag, even if you are young. You should be mindful of this and avoid smoking.

Massage

Moisturize your breasts daily and gently massage in a circular motion from upside down and vice versa, to keep the skin supple and help your breast retain their elasticity. Massaging your breasts helps to increase circulation in the tissues, which helps to increase the elasticity of the breasts.

Eat Proteins

Eating proteins is the best way to heal damages to the skin, connective tissues and muscles. Your body uses proteins to heal these damages, which in turns helps strengthen your breasts to resist gravity and remain perky. Protein rich foods include meat, milk, beans, nuts etc.

Eat Complex Carbohydrates

This particularly applies to you if you exercise regularly. Complex carbohydrates take longer to digest and provide energy for a longer time than simple sugars. This energy they provide is vital for exercise (so you don’t collapse from exhaustion during exercise). Good sources of complex carbohydrates are beans, corn, potatoes, lentils, green peas, whole-grain breads etc.

Avoid Weight Fluctuations

Try to maintain a stable weight as much as you can. Avoid yo-yo dieting, avoid rapidly gaining and losing weight, and avoid becoming overweight. This is because weight fluctuations tend to stretch out the skin of your breast causing it to sag over time.

Breast-feeding Will Not Make Your Breasts Sag

Please drop the unnecessary fear of breast-feeding causing your breasts to sag (if you have this fear). Your breasts sag as they get larger and heavier during pregnancy because this process stretches the ligaments of the breast. Regardless of whether you breastfeed or not, over time your breast will still sag. Breast-feeding will not make it worse.

Why Every Upcoming Artiste Must Listen To Wizkid’s Superstar Album

23:11 Add Comment
I listened to Wizkid’s first album, Superstar yesterday. To be honest, that album is his best yet and one of the best Nigerian albums. It was all about his struggles, hustles and how he suffered while he climbed the ladder of success. Something everyone can relate to, unlike the Jamaican rhythm and Pon Pon tracks he's releasing. That album would have an impact on you if you are a legendary hustler not like all these silver spoon kids like Davido who can't even define "Suffering".
Wizkid’s Album Art Cover

My best track on that album is Wad Up featuring D'Prince of Mo Hits(It was MoHits then). That track is emotional. Wizkid talks about times when people degrade him when he was nothing, how girls would ignore him just because he had only one jeans and one shirt, how Christian would move away from him just because his clothes were dirty.  But when fame and success came, everyone wanted to associate him. Everyone wanted to be friends with him. Similar to a verse in the Bible,  " the rejected stone has become the cornerstone". All the girls who rejected him in the past were always the first to greet him. Wad up. That is the ish with life, success is like sugar, it attracts ants. Success has many friends. You make it one time, people would want to associate. Nobody likes a poor man. Everyone relates with a rich man just because they feel they can gain something from him.
Wizkid before the fame

Next favorite track was No Lele. Big ups to Sam Klef,  the beat really added more juice to the track. Pure Afro-beat. This was like a remembrance track for Wizkid. He recounts how people asked him, how you make am. This song is a must listen to upcoming artistes. The advice wizkid gave in that song is classic. He says "When they tell you say you no go fit, my brother make you tell them say no lele". Lesson derived from this is to fix your eyes on the gold. Pay no attention to the hypocrites. Never let anyone poison your mind that you can't make it. Keep pushing the hustle. There are a lot of other motivational songs in that album. Oluwa Ni. Say My Name. Those songs are lit too. If you are an incoming artiste, this album is one of your starter pack. A must listen. Just wished Wizkid stayed true to the genre of music exhibited in that album. Wish he was still with Sam Klef. But man had to change to club music, gbedu wey dey burst speaker. If you listened to Superstar then, which was your best song?

6 Life-saving Tips For Running A Generator At Home

09:02 Add Comment

In almost every home in Nigeria, you will find a generator because power is unstable. Some run their generator for 24 hours while others run it in the night.  However, in recent times, we have heard of people dying because of generator fumes. It is unfortunate but true. Obviously, this carbon monoxide is very harmful to the body. In line with this, Latest9ja shares lifesaving tips for running a generator at home.

A group of Generator producing smoke

Your generator should be far away from your window
As long as generators use dirty energy such fuel or diesel, it will always release fumes. So, it should be reasonably far away from your window. Do not say that because you tightly shut your window and doors, you want to place it beside it. It is dangerous.
Use your generator outdoor
You will be shocked that some people in this country use their generator right in their parlour or sitting room. They don’t want to leave it outside for fear of it being stolen or because they are too lazy to go outside to switch it off. You are joking with your life if you continue with this practice.
Do not run it in an enclosed area
A generator needs ventilation to function properly because of the heat it produces while it is working. Always use your generator in an open space so that it will be able to breathe. A generator may stop working or explode if there is no ventilation.
Turn off all your appliances
Before you start your generator, turn off all your appliances to prevent any damage. This is because a power surge can destroy your devices. Also, do not overload your generator.
Never refuel a hot generator
It is no gainsaying that you should not refuel a generator while it is running let alone when it is hot. Your generator may explode if you do this. Hence, switch off before refuelling.
Periodic maintenance
Always maintain your generator by taking it for regular checkup especially when it produces fumes. Sooner or rather than later, it will collapse.

Five things To Draw Out From The Wizkid-Nicki Minaj’s Picture

08:52 Add Comment

The whole social media was sent into frenzy last night after a picture of Wizkid and Nicki Minaj emerged. While some thought it was one of those “Adekunle Gold’s” photoshop magic, others went the extra mile of going to Nicki Minaj’s Instagram Wall to confirm the picture.  However, it was no surprise to many last night as Nicki Minaj has been “stalking”  Wizkid for a few weeks. First, she started by liking his picture, then she took a step further by commenting on his posts and who knows maybe something might have gone down in the DM. However here are Five things to take from the Wizkid-Nicki, picture

Wizkid and Nicki Minaj at Nicki's Studio

1. Nicki Minaj Closer: Well, since Drake refused to by not appearing in the Video two times, label mate,  Nicki Minaj filled in the gap by coming closer.

2. Increase in Revenue: This picture would definitely boost Wizkid’s popularity particularly in the US which is his targeted market. And after appearing in Future’s snaps last month,  this would definitely boost album sales and bring in more revenue for the Starboy. This is due to the massive popularity of Nicki Minaj and not forgetting, she is the queen of rap!

3. A possible collaboration: While a few notable blogs have described the picture as a chance meeting between Nicki and Wiz, some have said it occurred in the studio. While we are not yet clear on that, this could lead to a possible collaboration in the next few weeks.  A chance meeting between Chris Brown and Wizkid in 2012 led to the massive hit “African Bad Gyal”  and also an acknowledgement from TydollarSign on Twitter led to two collaborations between Ty and Wiz. And who knows maybe Nicki Minaj is willing to score another One Dance Feat — Billboard No1.

4. More Fans And Followers: There’s will surely be an upsurge in the amount of Wizkid’s followers yesterday and a lot of people in the US will be willing to give Wizkid a chance by listening to his music and also purchasing his album. There will be a large turnout at his shows and concerts and just like when Instagram verified him after Drake put up his picture on his wall, more global attention will be on Wizkid now.

5. Wizkid is Talented: This picture shows that there are lots of benefits to enjoy from been talented that publicity won’t give you. Since the beginning of this year, Wizkid has been churning out tracks after tracks and shortly after the release of SFTOS for the international market, he released Medicine and Odoo for the local market. He has broken records and set new ones. The first Nigerian to appear on Billboard Hot 200 and he also topped the Billboard World Albums Chart. Any challenger for the Pon Pon Artiste?

5 Reasons Why Alexandre Lacazette Might Flop At Arsenal

15:44 Add Comment

Numerous big name signings have occurred during this transfer windows. Several clubs have broken the bank to purchase players. A number of teams have broken their transfer record, with Man City paying €57m for Benjamin Mendy. While the season draws nearer, top EPL clubs have bolstered their attacking ranks with Chelsea acquiring Alvaro Morata, Arsenal recruiting Alexandre Lacazette, Man Utd purchasing Romelu Lukaku. There's a lookout for a scapegoat amidst them. Someone who will flop, and while pre-season has exposed some of their weaknesses, majority of people have given their opinion on why it might be Lacazette who will flop his lines. However here are Five Reasons Why Lacazette Might Flop At Arsenal

1.There’s a lot of pressure on him at Arsenal
Arsenal are coming to the 2017/2018 season with a backlog of disappointments.  One is it was the first time they’d dropped out of the top four places since they first made it to the upper reaches of the table in 1996/97, and to rub salt into the wounds it was the first time they’d finished below bitter rivals Tottenham since the Premier League began.
Lacazette is coming to Arsenal in a time where they need him most. Olivier Giroud has been under-performing,  Danny Welbeck can’t be trusted and Alexis Sanchez looks certain to leave. All hopes are on him. There’s a lot of pressure heaped on him to succeed. Remember, he was bought for a fee of 46.5 million, a fee that broke Arsenal transfer record.

2. He’s not a Big Game Player : Before Arsene Wenger bought Lacazette, fellow rival, Jose Mourinho was also on the lookout for a striker, a physical one just like Zlatan Ibrahimovic. He sent scouts to the major leagues. Scouting reports revealed that Lacazette isn’t a big game player, meaning He fails to perform during big game and since Man United would be involved in the Champions League, Mourinho opted for Lukaku. However, this factor has been evident in Arsenal’s pre-season as Lacazette has failed to score against the big teams they faced. Against Chelsea, he produced a lacklustre performance and against Benfica, he had a poor ball control.

3. Ligue 1 Mentality: While Ligue 1 remains one of the top 5 leagues in the world, its quality can’t be compared to the Premier League. Truth to be told, Ligue 1 isn’t a big league. It is a league for average players. The more reason why premier league flops like Balotelli and Depay are flourishing there.

You can't come to the Premier League and score 40 goals like Ibra did during his time at PSG. Fatigue, 3 games within 6 games and some life-threatening injuries makes it more complicated for a player crossing over from France.

4. The Physicality Of The Premier League: Can Lacazette deliver against teams like Stoke City or physical defenders like Vincent Kompany and Nicholas Otamendi or rather at Crystal Palace who have tough defenders like Damien Delaney and Sakho? The physical game of the Premier League makes it difficult for Players who are of lightweight to thrive well. The major reason why Diego Costa was a success at Chelsea was because he was adapted to playing the physical game and given his body weight, he was just too tough to handle for Defenders. Lacazette did score 7 goals in European competition last season but majority of those goals came against little sides and not against Europe's elite teams. So whether Lacazette can deliver against tough defences, week in, week out, is still a question mark.

Will Lacazette be able to deliver against teams like Stoke?

5. Arsenal Playing Style: Arsenal playing style is synonymous to Barca's. They like to stretch opponents' Defence by maintaining possession. This weakens defenders as they run after the ball. Here, all the players are involved in the ball playing process. The main reason why Giroud isn't making waves as expected is due to the fact that He can't hold possession. In Barcelona, Suarez, Neymar and Messi know how to tap the ball around and make runs with it. This is an area that might take time for Lacazette to adapt to. Lyon don't operate with this style and Lacazette isn't a creative player as well, He only managed 3 assists in 2408 minutes while Suarez had 13 assists.
Ozil and Sanchez embracing each other

P.S: While Lacazette might go on to prove doubters wrong, let's not forget he would be donning the Number 9 shirt which is somewhat associated with ill-luck. Most players who wore the Number 9 jersey were flops from Julio Baptista, Antonio Reyes and Lucas Perez.

6 VALUABLE TIPS FOR NETWORKING

03:06 Add Comment
Networking becomes significantly easier when you understand what it entails and what it takes to succeed at it. Latest9ja , shares 6 valuable tips for networking.

Begin Networking Before You Need It

Desperation has an aura that can easily be discerned, as a result it might be counter-productive to begin zealous networking efforts at the hour of your greatest need. You can end up putting people off because people can sense when someone is only out to use them and help himself/herself. Networking when you aren’t desperate and have no immediate ulterior motives, can help you build better relationships and a good reputation for being friendly and generous rather than desperate and self-serving.

Plan Before Hand

This is a very important tip, especially if networking isn’t exactly your strong suite. Laying down clear details of the talents, strengths, skill sets and connections that you have and can take advantage of to enhance your networking efforts can make networking much easier for you. You should be sure of the things you can talk about with people at the event, and prepare for a case where you might be taken by surprise and have to comment on things you might not initially have prepared for. In addition, consider how you can also be of help to these people, don’t only consider how you can get them to help you.

Avoid Arriving Late

When you arrive early to a networking event, it’s calmer and quieter at the beginning. People have not yet settled into groups so it’s easier to mingle with everyone and find conversation partners.

Let Your Personal Agenda Take a Back Seat

The fact that you are networking for self-serving purposes doesn’t mean you should be blatant about it. Let your personal agenda take a back seat to building actual relationships with people. Be open, friendly and honest; make connections with people that will make it easier for them to remember you and want to help you, without you even asking directly.

Follow Up

If you promise to do something for someone at a networking event, do it. Follow up and follow through with it. People will value you for this and you’ll unknowingly begin to build a reputation for consistency and reliability. So, if you told someone you’ll call, call the person. If you promised to introduce someone to the person, take the time to do it.

Understand the Value of Networking

The true value of networking comes in being able to help others as much as you want to be helped. If you understand this and practise it well, networking will become a more than valuable business tool for you. Keep this at the back of your mind every time you make a networking effort.

7 Signs Your Social Media Account Has Been Hacked

03:03 Add Comment
It is no gainsaying that social media is now an important feature in our lives. It is used by almost everyone from celebrities to influencers, businesses, news platforms, marketers and individuals. Some persons have even leveraged on it to make money. So, it is important for your different social media accounts to be secured. Regardless, since you are online, and there are hackers prowling for accounts to hack, you have to be observant to know if your accounts have been illegally accessed or not. In line with this,  Latest9ja  presents 7 signs your social media account has been hacked.

7 Signs Your Social Media Account Has Been Hacked

You are unable to log into your accounts

This is an obvious sign that your account may have been hijacked by hackers. You have tried several passwords but you are still locked out of your account. Even the change password option is not working. It must have been a very sophisticated hack. The only way you can have your account back is to contact Facebook, Twitter, Instagram or Snapchat.

Status not updated by you

This is perhaps the simplest way to know if your social media account has been hacked. You will see tweets or posts you didn’t share appearing on your timeline. It may be political or propagandist messages. You should immediately change your password.

Your number of followers significantly Jumps

You only have 300 followers on either your Instagram or Twitter page. Then you suddenly notice that it jumped to like 2,000 or 3,000. It is strange right and you never followed anyone. In fact, Instagram or Twitter will not allow you to garner 2,000 or 3,000 followers a day. If this is the case, it is highly possible that your account has been hacked.

Someone logged into your account from an unusual location

Sometimes, you may add the wrong location for reasons best known to you. However, if you see a location you never added, it is an alert that someone is illegally accessing your account from that location. You may want to do some checks to be sure you were not the one that changed it.

You cannot find all your posts

All your posts for years have grown wings and flew away. You cannot find them. You searched and searched but you still couldn’t find them. You logged in and logged out but the same thing. It is advisable you change your password or you have to deactivate that account and open a new one.

Too many spammy ads on your page

This mainly applies to Facebook. A seemingly interesting post is recommended to you to read. If you click it, you have opened the floodgate to spammy ads. That click will allow hackers to access your account.

Your cover image has been replaced

If your cover image has been replaced with a naked woman or any other nasty picture or photo, it means someone is attempting to frame you or in the process of usurping your account. You should look out for this on Facebook, Twitter and Instagram.

5 Things to consider before renting an apartment for the first time

02:53 Add Comment
When you become a part of the private rented sector for the first time, there are a number of things you have to consider to ensure you are not cheated and that you’re in a secure and safe tenancy Latest9ja shares 6 things you as a first time renter should consider before renting an apartment.

A graphic image named "For Rent"

Tenancy Contracts
Though they tend to be long, confusing and full of legal jargon, it is important to avoid the temptation of just skipping to the end and signing it without reading. A tenancy contract is a legally binding document that mandates your landlord to do certain things that you definitely should be aware of to avoid being taken by a rude surprise.
Upfront Costs
It’s easy for first-time renters to forget that aside monthly or yearly rent, there are also upfront costs of renting an apartment and you’ll almost always have to complete the payment of the costs before you can move into the apartment. You should prepare and plan ahead for these costs to avoid a rude shock in this area.
Long Term Costs
Aside monthly or yearly rent, there are other utility payments like electricity, water etc. that you have to consider. You need to be sure if certain utilities are covered by your rent and provided for or if you will have to either source for them or pay for them.
Take a Meter Reading Before Signing on the Dotted Line
Landlords are fond of passing on previous electricity bills to new and unsuspecting tenants. Ensure you are not a victim of this by taking a meter reading of the electricity meter when you come to inspect the house. You can also request to see evidence that electricity bills have been paid to date and there are no outstanding bills left for you to shoulder. Please ensure you do this to avoid being charged by PHCN for electricity previous tenants used.
Safety and Appearance of the Neighbourhood
Many first-time renters often get carried away with the excitement of renting their first apartment and forget to assess the safety of the neighbourhood their renting the apartment in. Please ensure you do not make this mistake. Landlords will hardly be truthful or sincere about the safety of the neighbourhood of their apartments, so you have to ask around and make necessary enquiries. You can talk to one or two people who live and work around the area to get information about what the area is really like.
Accessibility
Try to get an apartment that has an easy or relatively easy access to public transportation, provision stores, medical facilities or anything else you consider important to your living situation. This will help make life in the apartment easier for you.

Five Entrepreneurial Lessons To Learn From Small Doctor

02:44 Add Comment
So, during the weekend, I wrote a post about Small Doctor, That Wack artiste you all hate. But to the streets, He's their most prized asset. He is to what Pogba is, to Man Utd. But to the high class, we so much hate pangolo music, it's noise to our ears. We like Wizkid, Drake, Nicki, Adele.

What of the streets, if it's not Paso, Atawewe, Obesere, Osupa or Small Doctor, it can't just make sense. Will you expect a "NURTW area fada" to listen to Adele, nah he can't even comprehend the lyrics. You just have to play those "Orin melody" songs to him. However, the post isn't about his genre of music, it's about the Entrepreneurial Lessons You All Can Learn From Him.

Small Doctor came into the game less than 3 years ago, but damn, he came in with a new style. A fusion of the afro-urban style into the pangolo music. He made street music a little bit modern. It was now spiced up, beats were made by top-notch producers, tho still maintaining that pangolo beat. Lyrics were dropped which contained vulgar content and the usual slangs. So, what entrepreneurial lessons can I learn from small doctor?

1. Identify Your Market: Ask yourself, what aspect of the aspect will your goods/services be useful for? Small Doctor is someone who the high-class hates for his trashy and noisy music. But the streets love pangolo music, gbedu wey dey burst brain. You can't expect the streets the to listen to Adele-like music, it's not possible. The music has to appeal to them. Small Doctor was able to introduce some urban street-hop into the existing "pangolo street music". Not like all the regular "pon pon sound" or "frog-voice laden songs". Study your market, understand what they need and want, take advantage and monetize!

2. Market your brand: The next thing after discovery is to market your business. Just like a farmer does when he harvests his produce, its time to distribute goods and services to consumers. Publicize your brand, your service, your business. Consumers want to know what exactly it entails. They want to know the benefits of purchasing from you. Small Doctor was able to get street rep from the people of the street, every hotel, bar, restaurants and "mama put joints" were vibing to the "mosquito song". Small Doctor would have done some free shows, gave out free CDs, settled some DJs. Likewise for upcoming entrepreneurs, the beginning is always the hardest. Advertise your services/ brand on social media. Buy friends and family over with some free stuffs. Chances are that you get referrals from close friends. Tap into the world of social media especially Facebook where the level of interpersonal relationship is huge.

3. Have a logo: This is not about graphics design. It's about the core values of your business. Your mission, what you stand for and represent. As a fashion designer, it could be the ability to deliver service on time to clients. Small Doctor had a unique sound, The Hiann Hiann Hiann sound that serves as his intro at the beginning of all his songs. Hardly will you hear any Small Doctor song without that intro.

4. Constantly Evolve and Change Your Practices: After a few years, small doctor felt the need to evolve and move from the rugged life to a new urban lifestyle yet still maintaining the modus operandi: Pangolo music. Mosquito killer penetrated fully into the industry and his song with Olamide coupled with his "Gbera song" grew to be street anthems. There would be a time in your business where you would need to acquire a few employees, employ a new strategy or add a chain of business. This is necessary as change is needed for growth.

5. Set out a continuity plan: People asked what's next with small doctor after “Gbera”, but look, he's got the whole streets vibing to "Penalty". Likewise, set out a continuity plan, your vision for a new year and how you're going to achieve them. A continuity plan is needed so as not to run out of ideas when trying times occur.
Lastly, Don't streamline your career to one aspect. Explore other aspects. Be multi-resourceful.

Revealed! Femi Falana Discloses Identity Of Person Behind Igbos Quit Notice

02:01 Add Comment
Human rights lawyer, Femi Falana (SAN), has claimed that the person behind the quit notice issued to Igbos living in the North, resides in Lagos.

Falana said this while speaking at a media briefing organized by the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC), on the raging agitations by the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB).
The legal luminary added that it was the utterances of a one-time Vice Chancellor of Ahmadu Bello University (ABU), Prof. Ango Abdullahi, over the brutal killings of four students of the institution, that allegedly led to the protests by the Nigerian students and the arrest of eight students of University of Nigeria Nsukka (UNN) by the Gen. Ibrahim Babangida’s military regime.
“The recently concluded election in the UK, two weeks ago, seven Nigerians emerged as Legislators, can we repeat that, can we look at the challenges before us and stop following those ones trying to divide us?
“This information is very crucial to all of us and I want to say this publicly. The man who is giving quit notice (to the Igbos to leave north) does not live in the North, he lives in Lagos, he is a Lagos man. So to stay in Lagos and be giving quit notices is not the answer.
“On May 23, 1986, young people, four of them were killed in the Ahmadu Bello University because somebody had said we are against coup… Ango Abdullahi was the Vice Chancellor of Ahmadu Bello University when these students were killed by the Police, he came out and said only four students were killed.
“That angered Nigerians particularly the Nigerian students and there were protests. One of the universities where that protest was very successful was the University of Nigeria, Nsukka. Please listen to me, the man who led the protest was late Chima Ubani, what happened? The state did not like the case that it was a national protest against the killing in ABU.
“What did they do? They didn’t arrest the students who were protesting in the North. They didn’t arrest the students who were protesting in the West, (Ibrahim) Babangida regime went for Chima Ubani and arraigned him and eight of his colleagues under a military rule that required that they be sentenced to death.
“I left Lagos to go to Enugu to defend those men. We got them freed when they returned to campus, the Vice Chancellor expelled them. Again, I went to court and got them freed. Please this story is very important.
“A Hausa Vice Chancellor invited the police and they killed young Hausa students, four of them. Nigerian students protested and an Igbo young man led that protest in the East against injustice, a Yoruba man in the West to free them. So we must look at those things that the elites are using to divide our people. Injustice is injustice, so there no nation without challenges,” Falana stated.
