Trump attacks Australian PM during phone call

President Donald Trump ripped into his Australian counterpart during their call last week, reports said, castigating a refugee accord he later described on Twitter as a “dumb deal.”

The Washington Post said Trump abruptly cut short the fiery conversation after criticising the agreement to re-settle people kept in Pacific camps, sparking a war of words with Australian Prime Minister Malcolm Turnbull Thursday after the report surfaced.

Australia is considered a close US ally — one of the so-called “Five Eyes” with which the US routinely shares sensitive intelligence — and the call might have been expected to be smooth sailing.

But, according to the Post, Trump’s assessment was the opposite.

Of his four conversations with world leaders that day “This was the worst call by far,” it cited him as telling Turnbull, shortly before he terminated the telephone meeting.

Australian government sources told the Australian Broadcasting Corporation the report was “substantially accurate”.

Turnbull said he was disappointed details of the “very frank and forthright” exchange had been leaked.

“As far as the call is concerned I’m very disappointed that there has been a leak of purported details of the call in Washington,” he told Sydney radio station 2GB.

“But I want to make one observation about it — the report that the president hung up is not correct. The call ended courteously.”

He added that Canberra had “very, very strong standards in the way we deal with other leaders and we are not about to reveal details of conversations other than in a manner that is agreed”.

The Post’s account is markedly different from the official read-out of the call provided by both governments.

Turnbull said Monday that Trump had agreed to honor the deal struck with then president Barack Obama to resettle an unspecified number of the 1,600 people Australia holds in offshore processing centers in Nauru and Papua New Guinea.

There were fears the new US president would rescind it after he signed an executive order last week to suspend the arrival of refugees to the US for a least 120 days, and bar entry for three months to people from seven Muslim-majority countries.

Vatican expresses ‘concern’ on Trump’s wall, travel ban

The Vatican on Wednesday voiced “concern” over President Donald Trump’s executive orders to build a wall on the US-Mexican border and impose a travel ban on nationals from seven Muslim-majority countries.

“Naturally, there is concern,” the Holy See’s number three, Monsignor Angelo Becciu, said on the Catholic TV channel TV2000, in response to a question.

“We are builders of bridges, far less of walls, and all Christians should emphatically reaffirm this message.”

Becciu noted that Pope Francis had repeatedly stressed the need “to integrate those who arrive, who come into our society, into our culture.”
Trump has run into a storm of criticism since signing orders to build an anti-migrant frontier wall with Mexico and temporarily ban nationals from seven countries — Iran, Iraq, Libya, Somalia, Sudan, Syria and Yemen — for 90 days.

President Donald Trump has ordered a four-month ban on all refugees entering the US. He also singled out refugees from Syria as barred from entering the country indefinitely, or until he himself decides they are allowed in.

No visas will be issued to immigrants from seven mainly-Muslim nations including Syria, Iran, Iraq, Libya, Somalia, Sudan and Yemen for 90 days.

“I’m establishing new vetting measures to keep radical Islamic terrorists out of the United States of America. Don’t want them here,” Trump said earlier on Friday at the Pentagon.

“We only want to admit those into our country who will support our country and love deeply our people,” he said.

There were reports of Syrian families who have spent up to two years being vetted for a visa left stranded at the airport having sold all their possessions.

Donald Trump Rejected by Germany

U.S. President Donald Trump will not be made an honorary citizen of the small German town from where his grandparents emigrated, the town’s mayor, Thomas Jaworek, said on Friday after a council meeting.

Councillors in Kallstadt, the quaint village in Germany’s wine-making Rheinland region that was home to Mr. Trump’s grandparents, had been presented with a proposal to honour the newly inaugurated president.

The town’s councillors did not address the Trump proposal directly at the meeting, but instead reaffirmed their position that the town does not hand out honorary citizenships.

Germany’s own Republicans, a fringe party sharing the right-wing conservative values of their U.S. namesakes, lodged the request for honorary citizenship and even wanted to have a street or square named after him.

“There is no faction that supports the proposal,’’ Mr. Jaworek said ahead of the meeting.

The municipality of Freinsheim, which includes Kallstadt, also brushed aside a similar proposal, with a town spokesman saying Trump did not fulfill the requirements.

Report says Mr. Trump’s grandfather, Friedrich, who later anglicised his name to Frederick, set out from Germany for New York in the late 1800s and later headed west as part of the Gold Rush.

He sent some of his earnings back to his relatives in Germany, where a distant few of them could still be found in Kallstadt.

Melania Trump 'barely speaks English' despite First Lady speaking several languages

Chelsea Handler took a swipe at Melania Trump saying she wouldn't interview the First Lady because "she can barely speak English."

Perhaps the comedian, who does not hold a college degree, should do her research first. The First Lady speaks at least five languages, including English, French, Italian, German, and Slovene.

As far as we can tell, Handler speaks but one.

This isn't the first time the "Chelsea" host has gone after Melania Trump's accent. She shared several tweets over the course of the presidential campaign making fun of the First Lady.

Handler then launched into a speech about "divisiveness" not being "the answer" and the need to "reach across party lines." An interesting appeal considering Handler's comments about the President and First Lady.

"Divisiveness is not the answer," Handler explained. "And I think to get that message, we have to reach across party lines, forget your party. I’m registering as an Independent. I’m not gonna be a Democrat anymore because it’s too divisive. This isn’t working, this two-party system."

When asked what she would tell the President if she saw him at Sundance.

"F--k off. I mean, gross."

A rep for Handler did not return Fox News' request for comment.
